Andem Edem, a lawyer to the embattled gubernatorial candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Akwa Ibom state, Senator James Akpan Udoedeghe, has approached a Federal High Court in Abuja, alleging subterranean plot by some persons to assassinate him.

Edem, in a motion on notice he entered before the high court, joined President Goodluck Jonathan, the Attorney General of the Federation, as well as the Chief of Defence Staff, as respondents to the suit he filed with a view to enforcing his fundamental human right to life.

The applicant told the court that though he had been receiving threat massages following the role he played in the election petition litigation that sought to unseat Governor Godswill Akpabio from office, he said the last direct attempt to eliminate him occurred while he was returning from a branch of the First Bank Plc, situated at Area 3, Garki District in Abuja.

He alleged that his assailants, used a Nigerian Army staff car, Peugeot 406, with registration number NA 499 BO2, and rammed his car severally, after which they zoomed off, thinking he was dead.

While accusing one Captain Ini Ekong, who he said was the Chief Security Adviser, CSA, to Governor Akpabio, of masterminding the assassination plot, Edem, urged the court to invoke its powers and order the Nigerian Army to commence a full-blown investigation into the matter.

Also joined in the suit were one Colonel Ibim Lawson, Captain Gambo, Corporal Hassan, Mr Aniete Ekong, as well as Akpabio’s CSA, as the 4th to 9th respondents.

Specifically, the applicant is asking the court to order that the allegation “be dispassionately investigated with a view to bringing the culprits to book.”
