Google recently claimed that through their safe browsing API and other technologies, users are protected from malware and other attacks like government-sponsered ones.
Google reported that about 9 500 new malicious websites are detected per day amongst them are the innocent ones that have been compromised by hackers and others are built specifically to distribute malware or for phising.
About 600 million users of chrome, firefox and safari recieve millions of warnings per day about the malware or phising on the sites they visit. 12 million to 14 million google queries recieve warnings per day that the sites are compromised.
Besides giving warnings on downloads and sending notices to webmasters on malware they need to remove, google also remove phising pages within an hour of their detection.
All these are just but few reports on how hostile the web is and one can understand how much google is doing to enhance internet security. Users are therefore advised to take the measures at the users-level to do their part.
