THE Federal Capital Territory Administration [FCTA] will partner with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation [UNIDO] and Japan International Corporation Agency [JICA] to recycle seized rickety and abandoned vehicles dotting the FCT landscape.
FCT authorities say the effort is aimed at creating wealth and facilitating employment opportunities for residents in the nation’s capital.
The Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, gave the indication while receiving the UNIDO representative who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
Senator Mohammed disclosed that affected vehicles and commercial motorcycles deposited at the Abuja Auto Pound would provide raw materials to commence the initiative.
He revealed that the collaboration will be fashioned on an already existing framework, and consequently directed FCT Permanent Secretary, Engineer Anthony Ozodinobi, to immediately commence implementation.
The Minister also directed the Abuja Technology Village, Transportation Secretariat, Abuja Investment Company Limited, Land and Economic Planning, Research and Statistics Departments to key into the project and provide facilities for smooth takeoff.
UNIDO Representative, Dr. Patrick Kormawa, described the Kaiho Sangyo Project as part of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) support to the FCT.
Chief Representative of Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), Mr. Sumi Yoshitaka, said the project would reduce problems of social development in the territory.
