An Osogbo Magistrate Court had sentenced a  30-year-old man, Akintayo Olaluwoye to one  year imprisonment for stealing 30 pieces of electrical sockets at Akede Housing Estate located at Oke-Baale Area of Osogbo.

The charge sheet revealed that the electrical sockets the accused person stole were valued at N60, 000.

According to the charge sheet, the accused person broke into house of one Abibulahi Kareem, where he allegedly carted away the items found on him.

The offences were said to have been committed on October 23, 2011 at around 3:30pm and were said to be contrary and punishable under section 390 of the criminal law.

The charge sheet further stated that the accused person also entered into the shop of one Mr. Taofeek Adedoyin and stole two sachets of pure water.

The accused person pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

Briefing the court on the fact of the case, the police prosecutor, Inspector Solomon Oladele, disclosed that the accused person had criminal record and had once been sentenced to six years jail term, but spent 4 years before he was granted amnesty by the immediate past government.

He also tendered before the court exhibits recovered from the culprit, as well as his confessional statements.

In his interlocutory appeal, the culprit urged the court to temper justice with mercy, pledging to be of good conduct if given a second chance.

After the consideration of some exhibits that were presented before the court, the presiding magistrate, Mr. Olalekan Ijiyode, maintained that the accused person was remorseful and therefore sentenced him to one year imprisonment.

A man stole 30 pieces of electrical sockets, and get 1 year jail term. What happens to those in the corridor of power and political robbers, who steals billions of money with their pen? Injustice of the highest order in Nigeria!
