60 Free Internet/Web Browsers! Which do you prefer? - Part I

This is the first part of the list of 60 Internet/Web/Offline browsers you could never imagine.

Back in the early 1990s when the World Wide Web was young, there was only one web browser worth using: Netscape, which evolved from Mosaic. But today, there are several browsers available for use. See below the list of commonly available and used web broswers. This post is in six parts. What out the full list.

1.   Abaco (A Web Browser for Plan 9) is a multi-page graphical web browser for Plan 9 intended to retrieve and display web pages while trying to be as congruent as possible with system. It is a multi-threaded and modest-sized program.

2.   Amaya is a Web editor, i.e. a tool used to create and update documents directly on the Web. Browsing features are seamlessly integrated with the editing and remote access features in a uniform environment.

3.   Arachne is a full-screen Internet suite containing a graphical web browser, email client, and dialer. It primarily runs on DOS based operating systems, but includes builds for Linux as well.

4.   Arora is a lightweight cross-platform web browser. It's free (as in free speech and free beer). Arora runs on Linux, embedded Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, Windows, Haiku, and any other platforms supported by the Qt toolkit.

5.   Avant Browser: Best browser on the net. 8.   Charon is a web browser for the Inferno operating system. It is a basic graphical browser with support for javascript, HTTPS, and basic support for FTP.

9.   Chrome: Google Chrome runs web pages and applications with lightning speed.

10.   **Chromium is an open-source browser project that aims to build a safer, faster, and more stable way for all Internet users to experience the web.

11.   Classilla: A fork of Mozilla for classic Macintosh systems, with upgrades for security, stability and functionality. Targeted for Mac OS 9 with support for OS 8.6 where possible.

12.   **Conkeror is a keyboard-oriented, highly-customizable, highly-extensible web browser based on Mozilla XULRunner, written mainly in JavaScript, and inspired by exceptional software such as Emacs

13.   Dillo Web Browser: Lightweight browser alternative for those running Unix. Dillo is a multi-platform graphical web browser known for its speed and small footprint.

14.   ELinks is an advanced and well-established feature-rich text mode web (HTTP/FTP/..) browser. ELinks can render both frames and tables, is highly customizable and can be extended via Lua or Guile scripts.

15.   Epiphany is the web browser for the GNOME desktop. Its goal is to be simple and easy to use. Epiphany ties together many GNOME components in order to let you focus on the Web content, instead of the browser application.

20.   GNUzilla and GNU IceCat: GNUzilla is the GNU version of the Mozilla suite, and GNU IceCat is the GNU version of the Firefox browser. Its main advantage is an ethical one: it is entirely free software.

21.   **Grail is an extensible Internet browser written entirely in the interpreted object-oriented programming language Python. It runs on Unix, and, to some extent, on Windows and Macintosh.

22.   GreenBrowser is your best choice of flexible and powerful green web browser. GreenBrowser is free to download and use.

23.   ****HTTrack is a free (GPL, libre/free software) and easy-to-use offline browser utility.

24.   iCab is an alternative web browser for the Apple Macintosh with numerous useful features not found in other browsers. iCab is shareware and costs $20 / 15 EUR, but it can be also used for free with a small limitation.

25.   IEs4Linux is the simpler way to have Microsoft Internet Explorer running on Linux (or any OS running Wine).

26.   ****iNetAdviser is an IE based multi-window browser with integrated bookmark management that personalizes surfing based on your browsing history and existing bookmarks.

27.   K-Meleon is an extremely fast, customizable, lightweight web browser based on the Gecko layout engine developed by Mozilla which is also used by Firefox. K-Meleon is free, open source software released under the GNU General Public License and is designed specifically for Microsoft Windows (Win32) operating systems.

28.   Kazehakase is a browser with gecko engine like Epiphany or Galeon. Kazehakase is a Web browser which aims to provide a user interface that is truly user-friendly & fully customizable. It supports tabbed browsing, a "remote bookmark" feature (through RSS) in a menu or sidebar, a variable UI to adapt to the user's skill level, and customizable mouse gestures and key accelerators.

29.   KidRocket is a free web browser for kids to safely surf the Net's top child related web sites. Each hand picked, human edited site offers kids and parents many fun, interactive and educational activities.

30.   Konqueror is an Open Source web browser with HTML 4.01 compliance, supporting Java applets, JavaScript, CSS 1, CSS 2.1, as well as Netscape plugins (for example, Flash or RealVideo plugins).

31.   Konqueror Embedded runs on the Qt/Embedded platform for embedded devices, in an environment without a KDE installation or a X windowing system, as one static binary, being as small as possible while still providing all essential features of a web browser

32.   Line Mode Browser: A character based Web browser developed for use on terminals which uses the libwww HTTP/1.1 implementation including a full HTTP/1.1 persistent cache, history lists etc.

33.   Links is text WWW browser with tables and frames. It runs on Linux, Unix, OS/2 and Windows.

34.   Lobo is an open source pure Java web browser with support for HTML 4, Javascript and CSS2. It can also be used as an API.

35.   Lynx is the text web browser. This is the top level page for the Lynx software distribution site hosted by the Internet Software Consortium.

36.   Madfox is a web browser. This is a Gecko-based Browser, based on Mozilla Firefox.

42.   Netscape Browser: Official support for this browser has ended since March, 2008 but you can still download and explore the browser.

59.   WorldWideWeb browser: The first web browser - or browser-editor rather - was called WorldWideWeb as, after all, when it was written in 1990 it was the only way to see the web. Much later it was renamed Nexus in order to save confusion between the program and the abstract information space (which is now spelled World Wide Web with spaces).

60.   X-Smiles is an open xml-browser for exotic devices.
