Nigeria Has a Chance of Securing UN Security Council Seat

(1/1)

naos:
Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Chief Ojo Maduekwe is confident that Nigeria has a good chance of securing a non permanent seat on the U.N Security Council.

Speaking to journalists after delivering President Yar’adua’s address at the general debate of the sixty fourth session of the UN General Assembly, Chief Maduekwe says the African Union has endorsed Nigeria because of the country’s track record of providing leadership in the West African sub region.

The elections into the council comes up on October 15th during the 64th session of the UN General Assembly this year and Nigeria must secure a minimum of 127 votes, which is two-thirds of the 192-member U.N General Assembly, to secure the security council seat.

Chief Maduekwe says a seat on the UN Security Council would address the challenge of democracy and ensure that Africa’s voice is heard and taken more seriously.

Nifemi Donald:
we always have a chance in everything.but what happens at the end of the day,we miss that chance.
